Jasbir Vohra, affectionately called GUDDI was born on August 18, 1939 in Gujjarkhan-a city now located in Pakistan. She belongs to a distinguished Army family. Her father Sardar Singh Bakshi served in the British Army and finally retired as Major from the Indian Army. Sardar Sardar Singh Bakshi and Sardarni Balwant Kaur Bakshi (Guddi’s mom) were the doyens of the Bakshi and Vohra clans.

They epitomized the notion of tradition, dedication, perseverance, and respect-qualities that are found all through these Two families. Her eldest brother Surinder Singh Bakshi retired as Colonel from the Indian Army. Besides, she has two more brothers; Bakshi Kuldip Singh-a businessman in Kuwaiti for over 40 years, has now settled in NOIDA. and Late Bakshi Jung Bahadur Singh-a successful entrepreneur and industrialist in India. Her only sister, Sardarni Harbir Kaur , is married to Mr.Shashi Sood, who is a CPA in California, USA.

Guddi, being the eldest daughter in the Bakshi family, was groomed well by her parents on Indian family traditions. She has successfully imbibed this spirit of tradition and cultural values in her 2 sons (Dobin and Lak), and has been an ideal partner to her husband Prithi (Kaku) for 49 years. She has been blessed by a charming grand Son Jasmehar (Jassu)

Guddi completed her Bachelors of Art (BA) degree from Agra College- a premier Indian academic institution that has served as the alma mater for several illustrious Indian personalities (including Moti Lal Nehru who was the father of Jawahar Lal Nehru).

As a very keen sportswoman, she took active part in college and university athletics championships. She won first prize in Shot Putt, Javelin throw, and Discus throw in the Annual Sports events organized by Agra College. She also stood second in Shot Putt, third in Discus throw and third in Javelin throw at the University Sports meet for the year 1957. These athletic events were given wide coverage in The Statesman Newspaper of December 11, 1957. She was a member of the “A” team of College Table Tennis in the session 1957-58 and won the College Badminton Tournament during the year 1955-56. She also participated as a member of the badminton team that won the Inter-College Badminton Tournament in1956-57 conducted under the auspices of the Agra Colleges Sports Association. She was the College Champion during the year 1958. Guddi also took keen interest in dramatics and social activities in her College and was Treasurer of the Agra College Union during the session 1958-59.

Guddi is a qualified expert in Preservation & Canning of Fruit & Vegetables, a certification conferred on her (in 1980) by the Community Canning & Preservation Center, Government of India, Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation in 1980. The St. John Ambulance Association (India) in 1956 also trained her in “First Aid to the Injured”.

Guddi is happily married to Prithi (Kaku) Vohra since October 1960. Prithi served in the Indian Army for over three decades and finally retired as Colonel. He is now a management consultant and a very devoted Rotarian. As a wife of a Senior Army Officer, Guddi took active interest in the welfare of the families of army troops

She organized stitching, knitting and sale of items produced by them to raise welfare funds. She was the Regional Secretary of the Army Officers Wives Welfare Association, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
