Lak has been a real estate agent for over a decade on the East Coast, and now focuses solely on Manhattan’s fast-moving apartment sales and rental markets.
A resident of the Financial District, he is a FiDi (financial district) specialist, and also runs a real estate website for the local community called FiDiDigs.com. The website receives in excess of 50,000 pageviews a month and has more than 20,000 email subscribers who live or work in the Financial District. The website serves as a glue for the close knit FiDi real estate community, which is the crown jewel of the Manhattan real estate market in terms of deals and steals.
Lak specializes in high end apartment sales for global investors who want a lucrative and juicy bite of the Big Apple’s real estate market, especially in dollar per square foot and the white glove level of amenities and lucrative tax-free incentives the clients demand and expect. He is a purveyor in jewel properties of interest to savvy global investors.
Lak also serves as a coach and the critical resource for first-time home borrowers helping them navigate the maze of complex pre-approval documentation and the resulting negotiations that lead to a smooth transaction to the utmost satisfaction of the clients.
On the rental side, Lak only works with carefully screened clients, or vetted referrals and most of his clients tend to be upscale young professionals, or young families looking for a 3- or 4-bedroom apartment for a steal.
Lak, on occasion, will also help young, working professionals, or Guarantors, find high-end rentals that allow shares on a case-by-case basis.
Lak is a Rotary Foundation scholar who came to the United States on a full scholarship after being accepted as a graduate student of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. He graduated in 1990 and was awarded a fellowship from the India Abroad Newspaper Foundation.
He also has a Master’s degree in History from the University of Delhi, India. He is a batch mate of Bollywood Superstar Shahrukh Khan at Hansraj College.
He has worked as a journalist for national publications, such as Indian Express in New Delhi, India and Washingtonian magazine and Examiner.com as a web evangelist in a previous avatar which stirred his passion on using his strong sense of judgment, confidentiality and sense of urgency in representing his clients best interests in real estate.
In whatever spare time he can fathom, Lak is an Internet entrepreneur who also runs PartyDigest.com, a social and business networking events website, which he patented with a registered trademark with the US Patent and Trademark Office. His main goal with the 13-year-old website is to assist charities raise monies by hosting events and social parties in 22 U.S. cities and select global destinations.
He is also the Founder of SikhCommunityCenter.org, a portal for Sikhs.
Lak has one son and originally hails from a five-generation military family that served in World War II in India and his family has been bestowed numerous national honors by the Government of India. His Uncle, the late Col. Darshan Singh Vohra, was awarded the Padma Shri medal of honor by the Govt of India for his pioneering work in the area of prosthetics in Chandigarh, India.
Another Uncle, the late Air Commodore J.S. Wohra, was a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force and flew sortees in Indo-Pak wars and was ordered to bomb a village in Pakistan where he was born. He commanded air force stations on each of his postings.
His Father, P.S. Vohra, retired as a Colonel from the Indian Army and lives with his wife of 52 years, Jasbir Kaur Vohra, in Chandigarh, India where he spearheads local activities for one of city’s fastest-growing Rotary Clubs.
His Brother, Baljit Vohra, is the key to the Middle East for Louis Berger Group in Dubai and has worked in the Green Zone Compound in Baghdad for over 10 years surviving numerous shrapnels, car bombs and landmines.
Lak and his family are 1984 anti-Sikh Holocaust survivors. His great-uncle was a POW in a Nazi concentration camp in Germany.
He started his sales career in high school offering complimentary lunch coupon incentives to livery cab drivers bringing same-day tourists to the Taj Mahal in Agra, India so they could eat in the employees cafetaria at the nearby Mughal Sheraton Hotel while the guests dined in the exclusive comforts of a five-star hotel.
Lak and his family own real estate in the USA, the Caribbean, India and in Dubai.
